I am passionate about helping people overcome hardship, and create lives in which they thrive.
I am a clinical psychologist, licensed in Washington state since 2001. I received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Southern California in 1990, and became licensed there in 1992.
Over the course of my career, I have worked in academia (teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level), outpatient mental health, administration, research, clinical supervision and private practice.
My brick-and-mortar office was in the Fremont area of Seattle for over 15 years. Now, my office is digital.
My other interests include writing, photography, dancing, cooking, hiking, spending time with family and friends, traveling and exploring the natural world.
Practice
I am deeply committed to helping people create full, rewarding and meaningful lives. I guide people to put in the right kind of time and effort, so that positive changes will be lasting. With care, respect and compassion, we can all reach places that once may have seemed out of reach.
One way to enhance our lives is through psychotherapy. Therapy is a mutual commitment to work toward better understanding and resolution of the issues or problems in your life. The goal is for therapy to lead to positive change which can ultimately lead to greater happiness and satisfaction, a lessening of stress, better ability to cope with problems, improved relationships, and deeper meaning and balance in your life. My therapeutic orientation is best described as integrative, drawing strongly on psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic and existential therapy modalities. I use a variety of tools and strategies, depending upon the type of growth and change that best suits each person.
Another way to enhance our lives is through consultation. Consultation is a form of guidance, support, and coaching. The goal is to create more effective strategies for coping with the challenges of life, and to step away from self- or other-defeating habits of thought, action or expressing emotion. It is often briefer than therapy, with more clearly defined goals of what obstacles are present right now, that we, together, can help you overcome.
We are ultimately responsible for the life we build. It is an honor to empower individuals to create the life they want, the life that matches their truest nature, and to live with a greater sense of peace and ease.
